Night Terrors are difficult to say the least....                                  30

Patty had stood up to get some water too when her daughter shoved her from behind. She gasped and grabbed the spindly chair. It fell over and Bluesage turned around in time to see his wife almost fall to the ground. 

He grabs his daughter and pushes her away from Patty. He takes Patty aside and checks her quickly. She seems flushed, but not hurt. He felt so relieved.

He turned and looked at his daughter. She stood there defiantly as if nothing occurred. ‘You are not going to get away with this Rebbecca Leola Bluesage. You will sit yourself right there in that chair and you will listen to what I have to say. You are in so much trouble for your behavior. I am not going to physically punish you young lady. You have punished yourself with your own anger.’

He waited to see if she had any response. She did not. She stared at him as if she were looking straight through him. He stared back at her and she smiled. He had her again. She sat down and he held her hands while talking calmly to her.

‘Things will never be perfect my child. Sometimes they will never even be close. Yet that is no reason to hide away from life, no reason to curse your predicament or those around you. On the contrary, it is every reason to rise up and go forth with renewed determination. If you wait for conditions to be perfect, you won't ever get much done. If you refuse to go ahead unless you can be guaranteed of a sure thing, you'll never get very far. 

That is why your mother requires you to go even if you think she is wrong. It's great to aim toward perfection, yet to arrive at perfection you must cross through a lot of imperfection. To get everything just right, you must be willing to deal with things going wrong. Take this day, this moment, with all its flaws, and make the very most of it. You can learn from this day of fear and frustration, turn the table and see the truth. She took her hands away from him and clenched her fists.

Rather than complaining about what you don't have or where you'd rather be, make full use of where you are, of what you do have. Aim toward perfection while also accepting the reality of what is. And excellence will surely result. Now do you understand this Rebbecca?’ She sat there holding her hands in front of her on the table. She waited several moments. Then as dramatic as ever, she sighed deeply. ‘I suppose if you want me to try harder I will. He seemed alright with that answer. Nature was calling and he left them alone to talk.

As her father walked off, Becky stood and began to come towards her mother. She began to quietly tell her that she was not going to stay around and be the babysitter for a baby that she wasn’t sure she wanted anyway. This shocked Patty and she backed up in utter amazement at the transformation. What had gotten into her daughter? ‘Mom, I am going to run away and find a man of my own. I know I can and what you do about it won’t affect me at all. You left your home when you were a teenager, so I am too.’ 

Bluesage was in the restroom at the time. He could hear through the vent what was said. He came out and saw that his two girls were as far from the center as he had ever seen them before. Understanding teenage hormones is hard enough, adding the hormones of a woman four and a half years pregnant, seems impossible-but he could. In some time Becky would settle down and become a wonderful young woman. He decided since they both were just standing there, he would tell them both one more thing. 

‘When there is no reason to be peaceful, be peaceful. For that is when your peacefulness can have the greatest positive influence. The world around you is often in turmoil. Especially with a very pregnant mother and a budding young woman.’ They both turned and frowned at him. ‘You do not have to make that turmoil your own by joining it or fighting against it. For a moment, put everything out of your mind and think of nothing. Stop your thoughts before they start, and enjoy the serenity of just being. Then, put back into your mind only those things upon which you truly wish to focus. Give peace a place to take hold in you, and it will.’ He stopped and looked at his girls. 

They were listening and that pleased him. ‘To be peaceful you need no particular effort or circumstance. When you let the noise, the concerns, the anxieties drop away, peace flows in to fill the void. Be peaceful, especially when the world around you is not so peaceful. And experience the powerful positive difference it always makes. 

Now, both of you need to cool off. Rebbecca, please go pick up your stuff off the ground and get cleaned up. It’s getting late. 

Patty, come sit down with me darling and I’ll help you center yourself. Come on now. She sat down and tried to stop and be calmer as he wanted. Soon enough they both had time to let it all go.
