A miracle begins to occurs today... Chapter 8
The winds howled all night. The rain was merciless to their tents. Rebecca was blessed with deep sleep, so she never heard a sound. The last few days had been overwhelming to her. To escape into sleep was heaven. Patty was uncomfortable and twisted, turning most of the night. Steven did what he could to eliminate any discomfort for her. Eventually they both fell deep asleep. The rain continued for a few more hours.
As the day began to break, you could hear droplets hitting the ground, drips from tree branches. Bluesage got up early, the day barely lit. The morning after a rainstorm was a magical time. He loved the smell of wet ground. What a marvelous beginning for the day. It was Monday, August 2, 2004. It was five thirty in the morning. He cleaned up and got dressed. He had a feeling he needed to go look at the stuff he had put in the trunk. He checked and had all the supplies for his son and wife. ‘Good, the rain did not soak into this trunk. I’m going to need it soon I am sure.’

The sun peeked out from behind the dark and the day began. Becca was awake, in the bathroom looking in the mirror at her eyeshadow. Blue began some breakfast. Patty was not stirring. He made eggs from a dove nest, and toast out of dry grass for her. The wooden chairs were all soaked so he set them out to dry in the sun. Today Becca had a large test and he knew she needed to be nourished to do well. She gobbled up her breakfast and was ready to read. She studied to give her confidence. Blue watched with pride as she ran through her history book. Today the test was on the race of humans that once inhabited the world: many eons ago. The rain made a bit of a muddy mess, but he found a place to stop and meditate for a bit while Becca read her history book.

She glanced up from her book and saw he was meditating. ‘Dad, Charley Sorenson ‘s parents are driving a bunch of us to school early. To make sure we get there I suppose. I forgot to tell you or mom. Is it okay?’ He looked over at her, stood up and and began to ask a few questions about Charley and his family. With a few well-placed questions, he felt sure that it would be a fine idea. He did not feel nor hear of anything that woke up in him any alarms.

A horn blasted out on the street. Blue looked at his watch: 7:15. ‘Rebecca, this is pretty early. School does not start until nine.’
‘Yes sir, but we want time to quiz each other. We’re going to hang out on the front lawn until school opens.’ He frowned, as now he had a new idea of what her plan was.
‘Rebecca, you are to get inside as soon as possible.'
‘Dad, school opens it’s doors at 7:30. I’m sure we’ll be there only a few minutes. Chill out.’ She walked over and hugged him goodbye. He squeezed her and kissed the top of her head. ‘Be careful angel. I love you.’

She turned and began to run. He watched her as she made her way through the trees and shrubbery of the forest. He glanced at his watch, and noticed the day was August 2nd, a good day with all he knew.
‘Who was that Blue?’ Patty asked as she came out of the tent, rubbing her eyes. Her hair was a mess, her nightgown showed how rough her night was. ‘Is Rebecca still here?’
‘She just left with the Sorenson’s. A family that has a boy named Charley. They have an octopus for a pet. She is going early so she can sit with others on the grass in the front yard of the school’ He waited to hear her begin some kind of questioning. He had his back to her, waiting for the tirade that would start. He waited, cocking his head, trying to sense what she was doing. Nothing, so he turned, and there in front of his eyes was his wife.
Patty was doubled up in pain. All around her on the ground was fluid. Some of it was red in hue. He ran to her immediately. She was almost white in color. She was soaking wet. Her hands trembled as she bent over.
He took her to a chair and sat her down in shade by their tent. She was barely breathing, still clutching her abdomen. Labor had begun. He could see that they wouldn’t have time to get her anywhere. His senses became sharp and his ears heard the days beginning. He looked at his wife, and felt a compassion for her work that she had just begun.
He knelt down so he could look at her straighforward.

‘Patty, listen to me. Darling you and I have been through this. You can do this my angel. I will be here by your side. This is our very own miracle right now. Can you take a few deep breaths and let it out Patty? Look straight at me and breathe.’ She stared at his hazel eyes. This is the man she chose to be the father of her babies, and it still was the most miraculous choice in her life. The sincerity that he shared melted her heart once more.
She takes his hands into hers, 'Blue this is it. He’s telling me today is his birthday. Oh my, it has been a long time since I had to do this. Whew, (she breathes through another contraction) that was a strong one. So, what are we going to do? I had our daughter in the hospital. Are we going to have our little boy here in the forest?’ The whole campsite became a shadow as a cloud gathered over their heads. He looked up, then at his wife. A smile slowly showed on his face. The dark cloud moved on and the day became bright with a deep blue sky and a few puffy white clouds. A perfectly beautiful day it was indeed.
Her eyes became wet and tears began to fall. Steven got his chair and put it down by her side. He leaned over and took her into his arms. He kissed her and hugged her tight. ‘You know my beloved. It is not where you give birth to our children that matter. It is that you are their mother that makes this event be a more precious time for our son and myself.’
This made her weep and she looked up at him and kissed her husband she loved more now than ever in her life. He always made her life brighter and happier with just his words and actions. What a marvelous life she had. He responded, being aware that she was in labor and might need him to pull back. They sat, talked and worked through her early labor pains. She was to tell him when she felt the urge to push. Bluesage had the blanket and the supplies ready. He had ice chips from the cooler to give her when she needed some relief.
She lay next to him. 'We need to go outside now Blue.' He had been timing her continually. Carefully the couple sat on the mat. They worked through her labor with mediatation and it helped her stay very calm.

Patty did well for some time. ‘What time is it Blue? It seems like we’ve been doing this for hours.’ She was becoming breathless as she spoke. The contractions were closer.
He looked, 'Every two and a half minutes' it looks like you are in the grip of pain that is going to bring you one step closer to bringing our son into the world.' She had him to help her focus and keep her breathing calm. He wanted to keep her fear level very low. What causes pain to be so intense is the fear that goes with it. If you can irradiate the fear, you have eliminated the incredible pain to a level you can mange.
Blue looked at his watch. It was 8:00. ‘Patty, I need to check and see how far you are on this journey.’ Patty knew she must be fairly close. She too wanted to know. Sometimes a woman has the urge to push before it is advisable for her to do so. Since Blue was many things, he was also able to help her deliver their baby. Her magic man could just about do anything she needed. How she loved him. She lay back, waiting for his gentle touch. The sky was so bright with blue color, she could almost feel herself floating away.
He looked up at her, knowing where her mind had taken her. He watched silently, waiting to tell her. She blinked, and looked at him with a glow about her.
‘Hmm, you are very close Patty. I would say in the next half hour, our young man will be present and accounted for.’ Blue helped her sit up and then he knelt in front of her, taking his rubber gloves off. The nurse had given him supplies when he and she spoke about Patty’s mother. Seems Helen had some idea that her daughter might go into labor unexpectedly.
‘Why don’t you get up honey and walk around. It might urge him to go faster.’
