It isn't easy having a baby, or being a dad...                                 40

Bluesage readied the blankets, the towels. He had a pot of hot water to sterilize anything if needed. He felt sure that his son would not need those hideous forceps the nurse gave him. He was shown how to use the blood pressure cuff. He was told it was important to check her blood pressure once in a while. He had pillows to prop her up in the last part of delivery: gowns to change into, and many towels.

The trees shielded her from any unwanted eyes. Patty was walking and holding onto her back. Back labor meant he might have his face up, instead of down as most babies are. As the contractions took hold of her, she would stop and get down on her knees: as if to meditate. ‘I’m so hot I can’t stand this anymore.’ He helped her remove her damp gown. She felt better with nothing on.

He looked to be sure he had all the towels he would need. This would be quite messy, but the most thrilling thing a father could witness,  to be there to help deliver his own son. The joy, feeling of awe that Blue felt was magnificent, and he was so high he felt he was levitating. He watched as she went through the breathing pattern. He was so proud of her. Her breathing settled and she was able to talk again.

‘Blue, I feel like I want to push. Will you please check me?’ She lies down on the blanket and he put his fresh gloves on. When he was through, he had a big smile on his face. ‘It’s time Patty. You can push any time you feel like it. You are completely effaced and ready to bring forth the newest member of the Bluesage family.’  They put the large mat down. She lay down and began to breathe very fast.

He put pillows behind her back and supported her until he had her set in the position best for pushing. They worked hard and long. She stopped at one point, stood up, kicked the blanket out from under them, got dressed in a gown, and yelled at Steven. He laughed inside and took the harsh words no further than the surface. He was quite aware of the level of intensity that goes with this last bit before the child emerges.

He looked at his watch. It was 8:45 am. ‘You are doing so well my darling. Would you like me to give you a few affirmations to center on?’ She is in between pain, so she smiles and nods her head. She knows he is a good man and not the ugly thing she spit at him. She pulls her gown off and cools down, lies back down to begin the new journey. The contractions began to arrive once more. Her mind listened to her husband's voice.

'All creation, living and non-living, is a manifestation of God. We need to do God's work exactly as it is revealed to us, and with love. We are responsible for our own spiritual growth and development. We need to look within our selves for answers; we need to meditate and pray to God until we become the prayer'

Another pain begins and she grabs her knees and doubles up to push as hard as she can. He counts out loud to her as she pushes. Soon it’s over and she falls back, out of breath. ‘Oh Blue is this boy ever going to get here? What time is it darling?’

Her water rushes out. This is good news for Patty and Blue. Their baby son is wanting to ride the tide to Life.

‘We have five minutes before nine in the morning on August 2. I think our son is pushing his way out my darling wife' He pulls his wet shirt off and grabs his favorite one, his purple shirt.
