Searching the beaches over...                                                        78

The pager was inside the box.  It was wrapped in a gift box that made Patty smile. 'This is for me to wear?' She opened it and saw a clip pager. He took it out of her hands and clipped it to her teenie bikini bottom. He looked up at her and winked. Several visitors on the beach watched the couple. Many thought they were sweet lovers. Of course they were, along with parents of two wonderful children.

Blue took Patty out toward the ocean’s edge. They had a tool to find anything that was related to their daughter touching or using it. Robin had a friend who was a specialist in finding others. He developed this rod that you fill with your missing person’s hair or clothing. The tool has a scent device that uses the scent inside the pole to compare with what is checking outside the pole.

They walked for over a mile before the gauge went off. A light and whistle alerted you to stop and check. Blue stopped and Patty dug down frantically. In her hand she found one of Becky’s barrettes for her hair. The barrette had a few wisps of her red hair. Bluesage bent to see. Patty turned it over and touched the soft red hair. She began to sob quietly. She held it to her nose and smelled her babys smell. Her sobs were deep. His feelings were closely the same, but he could hold his closer. He gently called her  'Patty darling, let’s go.'

Steven got her up and they began to walk. Their daughter had been here. They walked further and the tool went off again. This time he handed her the pole and he dug. What he found was her shoe. This was the part of the shoreline that was flooded when the tide came in. If you stood and felt the water going in and out of the shore, you can have your shoes pulled off of your feet. It seems that must have been what happened to hers.

‘What are we going to do Blue now? Is she in the water?' She could feel a scream in her throat.  He jumped up and grabbed her.

'DON'T do that Patty' very sternly. He stared at her until she softened. 'She probably did what she always has done. Stand and let the water take off your shoes. Remember doing that with her when she was little?' He searched in her eyes.

She let the horror show in her mind go, and smiled. 'She did like to do that, didn't she.'

He looked at his watch. It was already three hours. ‘I think we need to head back. How do you feel love?’ She let out another large sob, and then she calmed. ‘I am pretty sore as she felt her chest. It’s been long enough I need to get back and feed him.’

The couple walked back to check in on their son. When they arrived the room was filled with small children. Terra was trying to corral them out of the room. Patty laughed and went over to her baby. She sat on the bed and fed him while she and Terra spoke about children.

Terra asked if they had a chance to play on the boardwalk. They had not. Terra offered to keep David for a bit longer so they might play and get something to eat. Steven cleaned up and came out to see the room alive with children laughing and the two ladies in conversation over feeding habits.

'Steven, she is going to keep him a bit longer so we can eat and go check out the boardwalk. Is that ok with you?’

They had a nice dinner and apple pie with coffee. She ate and was as silent as is her way when upset. He too kept to himself, waiting and listening at the same time. The kids were in the pool laughing and splashing. How that took him back to the times with his sweet young Becky. She could make her daddy laugh so fast when she was small. His heart began to beat faster. He stood up quickly, it caught her eye. 'Blue, I would like a cup of coffe please dear.'
