Unruly night time can make parenting a chore.. Chapter 21

Neither slept well that night. Dad would finally give up sleeping and leave the tent. The perimeter of the homesite would be traveled, and then he would find some time to stop and center himself once more. Then a chance to sleep as he snuck back into the warm bed with his wife.

David was fitful and kept his parents up, off and on all night long. Patty would feed him and Blue would burp him. He would hand him back and she would do round two. Then daddy would get up and walk the tent floor to jostle him and try to work the child to sleep. In time he would place their baby in the baby pallet by his mama.
He moved a stray hair off her face. She was sound asleep with a slight smile on her face. He had to smile too. Life had its precious moments to smile about. Even now there was reason to find room to smile. He bent and kissed her.

It seems hours had passed before a familiar sound would change that dreamful state. She would wake, and realize In their midst was an eight day old boy that wanted to be picked up. Her eyes glanced at the clock. 'ONE HOUR' her mind screamed. She picks up her unhappy baby and walks him around the tent. His tummy is hurting, by the way his little legs are all scrunched tightly. She sat on the pallet and jostled him on her lap. His little mouth finally spit up a bit of baby vomit. In a small time and lullaby, he was sound asleep. Mama would snuggle next to her warm man and fall quickly into a dream.
