And it makes me wonder.... Why???                                    114

Already Becky has had to pick up enough body parts that she had to ask her boss to move her out of the area. It was a gruesome thing to do and she just had to find something else. As he looked over his books he grunted and found a new job. She would be required to run around the Town and work all the trashcans in the area.

Rodney disliked the kids and tried to make their lives so miserable, they would leave. ‘You better know that there are 200 trash cans and they are all getting pretty full.’ She signed the new agreement and dragged herself out of his office. She had many misgivings with this job, but it at least would give her money at the end of the week to eat. She was so tired of scraps from the backs of fast food restaurants. The rats had the best parts eaten, so she only got a taste.

She was to go inside the arenas, find the trashcans, drag them to the area she was told to bring them. The worst part of all was hauling, the loaded up trash bags. She had to pile it all up. Lots of junk was also ready for burning. Becky was surprised at the stuff, shoes, purses, baby bottles. All of it seemed silly, why not take it home? She had to stop thinking like that and get the piles ready.

After filling bags for hours, she had to stand and stretch. Becky had worked a long time. All the cans were empty and the bags full.  She knew she was not finished, but Rodney screamed at her anyway.

'YOU KID, what is this mess? You playing in those bags? Get over here now.' His manner was always so rough and crude, she knew he had to be an unhappy person. She dragged herslf out of the bags to see what he wanted her to do now.

Rodney barely touched the can to see if she had cleaned it. She had done as was instructed, but he still had to find something to keep her here. The weather was changing and most of the visitors were leaving. This would give him more chance to get more work finished.

Becky stood quiet, watching him inspect the cans. She knew it was getting late and wondered if her parents had brought David's harness so they could jump. The sky looked like a storm and dad had always told her how dangerous the airships where with storms.

Her boss finished the cans and walked over to the bags she had piled up.

'I don't know why you think that is enough work for you, you're sure lazy.' He sneered at her, ' Now listen to me kid, you better get over here and get this trash into bags, and that oil you are standing on right now? Well you have to clean that up too. None of this can be moved to the burn pile until it is all done right.'

Her stomach growled loudly as he ranted about her job. The poor child's mind was fighting her, lack of food and water and rest was catching up to Becky.

Rodney turned around and pointed his finger at her, poking her in the chest. 'If you leave before this is done, you will regret it.' He walked off in a huff. She cried for a few moments, then stopped. She poked around the trash bags, finding one she knew had something she might bring herself to eat.

'Okay that is some of it. I wonder if I will ever get to go home tonight.' Becky stood up, wiped her face and looked up, a raindrop hit her in the eye. A thought crossed her mind, but she let it pass. What if she just stopped this and found mama? Her heart jumped and she had to quickly move around to stop the thoughts.

She looked around her and knew she had to clean up the oil spills. Then all that other trash she was seeing.

.

Becky began to wipe up the oil spills. Her own tears added to the cleanup, her heart felt broken for all the hardships she had caused her own family. Seeing her grandmother made her realize the depth of her plans. She sat up and looked at the cans. She saw more trash that the wind had swept over to her. The overwhelming feeling of wanting to escape almost took over her whole little mind. Not ever would she suspect some of the Magic Town crew were kind hearted.

Becky heard something. She looked over to her left.  A clown was standing thee talking to her.

'Hey sweety, come over here to me. I will show you a few tricks that will be easier. Here, eat this sandwich, it's peanut butter marshmallow with river cream jelly.' Miss Clown smiled at the little blue skeleton. 'It appears dear little one, you have a few special friends in here. Harry told the Cotton Candy guy to find me,' she winked at Becky.

Becky devoured the sandwich quickly. Miss Clown could see her bones were really showing through the boney costume.

'My name is Kaner and your way to do Rodney's dirty work will hurt you very soon. This stick has a special mop area to pick up the oil. If you will go open the bottom of each of these barrels, I can mop this up in a very short time.'

Becky opened the taps and bagged up all the trash. When she turned around to help Kaner, it was all done. Becky gasped and clapped. 'Oh thank you so much, thank you thank you thank you.'

Kaner laughed and felt good about helping this little girl. 'Now that trash you loaded up over there, we have to push it to the other side of the building. The trash copters come over and pick it all up. We have a special place to burn all the trash. Let's go honey, we can do it fast together. We better, this storm is for sure coming. Huh, it stopped somehow.' Kaner looked up at the dark storm, stationary in the sky.

Becky wondered, did he do that?

'THIS IS ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE IN ALL THIS TIME?' Rodney was red with anger. The nice clown had stood by, knowing Rodney had to make one more big entrance. This young child was past exhaustion, nothing would push her any further.

Becky stood still all of a sudden. Her senses warned her of something she was not sure of. Even with her boss looking like a maniac with his arms waving and his lips spitting, she did not notice. Her hair all over her body had rose and it scared her. What was wrong? She tried hard to think, her head hurt so badly. What was wrong?

A strong arm pulled on her. 'NOW-MOVE' Kaner had her by the arm, pulling her like a rag doll. She had no feelings in her body all of a sudden. Kaner got her past Rodney throwing trays and screaming.

'STAND UP, now RUUUN' The sky began to fall, the dirt soaked up as much of the wetness it could. Rain in this part of Magic Town is rare.  The town had few visitors. The cruel man in the golf course had injured most of the occupants in the room before he left.

Rodney was tearing through the boxes, he had lost his mind somewhere. Possibly he will find it.
