I'm creeping back to life:  My nervous system all awry

She eventually came to the kitchen to make him a bottle. She tried to give the wailing boy to Bob; he just put a mouthful of food in his own mouth instead. She turned with disgust and wrestled with the baby and the mixing of formula.

As she finished she began to fight the baby to take the bottle. He was not a bottle-fed baby and it was difficult for him to understand he would not win this war. His wails became less intense and she knew she would win this soon. Bob got him a second helping and burped loudly as he sat. ‘I expect you to work on that fence today Bob. I need you to finish it soon. I want to take Homer outside to be in the fresh air, but I need him to be shielded from prying eyes. Bob looked up at his wife and smiled. He had a piece of bacon stuck in his teeth. She turned with disgust and walked over to put the bottle in the soapy water. ‘You going to do these dishes Bob?’

She smelled something and looked down at the baby. ‘Oh great, I just got you changed, and now look.’ She took him into the bathroom and stuck his naked little body under the faucet in the sink. No warm bath or water slowly trickling over his face; instead a rude and rough washing under the cool water in the sink. She walked out as Bob began to put soapy bottles on the counter. ‘Bob you dope, you have to rinse them out you know.’ ‘I will learn this as I go Betty.’ She turned in exasperation and walked into the bedroom.

‘Okay you little stinker. You are clean and fed and should be quiet for many hours. I surely hope so. You are much more than I ever thought of a new baby.’ She stood and stretched her back. Oh how she ached already. She had to get him moving on that fence. The yard needed mowing and he had all that wood that she ordered. Now he just had to measure and nail it up. He was so lazy it made her so mad sometimes. She looked down at the baby in the basket. She sighed loudly, ‘Oh I don’t know what I have gotten myself into now.’
