Patty sat for a moment and let it all filter down. She wanted the job; she needed the job. Yet she wondered how it would fit. Her mind came to the main issue that tore at her so deeply.
‘Dr. Armitage, I would be honored to take this job. I know I have had some hard times, but Steven has assured me this will help me in more ways than I can see right now. I will be able to start on Monday. I have to get our daughter settled in the Metaphysical Science Lab before the end of the week. The one thing that tears me up is my baby. I don’t know if I will be able to work this with him.’ She became very quiet and her eyes were shiny.
'Why that is an honor to be accepted there, how fortunate for her. I am not surprised, considering that she has you and your husband as parents. Patty, May I call you that? I know how hard this time is for you. Steven has told me everything. I’ve known him quite some time. Patty you can bring David with you when you need to. Babies are angels to the troubled in our facilities. You don’t ever have to worry about that.'
'I must get home,' she looked at her watch. 'I’ll walk you out and let these students have some time to decide who will be first. The crews from the television station will arrive shortly.’ As they walked out, he had one more thing he was supposed to tell Patty. ‘I have one more message from your husband that came on the fax. I am not sure what it is about but I just now remembered. He would like you to go to the News Center and get a paper.’ He shrugged and just smiled.
Patty looked at him with surprise. ‘That’s an idea, if I knew where it was.’ Dr. Armitage laughed and gave her the details to get over to the next block. They shook hands and she walked off with a lift in her spirits. She had a job now and could help them with their lives.
