The baby woke her every few hours. Because she was so distraught, the baby did not fill his stomach, which made him hungry sooner. Betty had no help with the housework. Bob and Tommy tried to stay out of her way. She was always in a bad mood and screamed most of the time. 

She held him up and screamed at him 'HOMER YOU HAVE TO STOP THIS SCREAMING AT ME, I CANNOT TAKE ANY MORE OF YOUR TEARS'.  The baby replied with more screaming. It seemed nighttime was the worst for her. She could see Bob and Tommy sound asleep and it drove her to the edge of the cliff. Betty could see the deep cavern she would fall into if this child were not satisfied soon.
