She felt foolish somehow. This was not right, she has known him always; he will not be anything more than the wonder that he is. Yet her trauma over the past just kept her from being forthright. She turned to look at her baby bag. It was so sweet and still smelled of her baby son. As she bent to touch it, he bent to watch her face.
The truth of life is within the eyes, and he had to watch her to help her bring it out. She refolded all the blankets, nightshirts and diapers she carried in the bag.
'Steven, I feel I might know where our baby is. I called the house many times and never had anyone answer. Just say hello and then nothing.' Her words began to falter as she tried to go further. 'I walked all along the way to the interview. It went well Blue, it really did.' She tried to wipe her eyes as she went through that day in her head. He quietly listened, rubbing her lower back as she took some deep breaths to calm herself.
'Well I felt this need to go buy a paper.' She looked at him 'I don't know what possessed me but I did.' The rest was harder for her to say, as this seemed so horrible. Patty tried to say something, then stopped. She tired again with no luck. Finally she took a very slow deep breath, and began to say it.
'I saw how Betty Newbie had made such a mess at a Baby Sale. Someone had taken photos of her scaring everyone. She had a wild look on her face too. BLUE WHY DOES SHE NEED A BABY SALE?' She felt herself talking too loud and put her hands to her lips. He took them off her mouth and kissed them. 'Go on babe, just keep talking.'
