The day had started under dark, brooding clouds, but by midmorning, the sun was shining brightly. Things were restful at the Bluesage home. Patty finished the dishes, then looked out the window. She smiled when she saw Becky in the patio. She was working on her coloring book and talking quietly to herself. The patio was littered with her toys, but mom didn’t mind. As long as Becky was calm and happy, mama was happy too.
Mother ambled to the downstairs bedroom, where David was sleeping quietly. She gazed on his face and wondered, "What do babies dream about?" She checked his diaper and then covered him gently. Close by, Greg was lying quietly. He opened an eye, closed it, and then changed position. Patty looked over and felt so much love for him. She was startled when Blue brought him home, and yet this small creature has been a wonderful gift to her family. She walked over and gave him a love pat. Greg purred and fell back to sleep.
Patty walked into the bathroom to apply some moisturizer. Seeing her man Steven relaxing in the hot tub, she kissed his forehead, and he opened his eyes. "`Morning, lover! How do you feel?"
Impishly, she slipped in beside him, fully clothed. They both laughed. "I feel good, Blue. The workmen seem well-mannered and dutiful."
"That’s right, dearest: the Foreman told me that they expect to be finished tomorrow morning. Then we’ll have the place all to ourselves. We’ve had so much excitement lately, It’ll be good to take it easy." He watched her as her bright smile turned down.
Patty frowned for just a moment, then said, "Do you think the Yaks will come after us, eventually, Blue?"
"Possibly," he said, darkening. " But if they do, they’ll find us more than ready! Our panic room is in place, already."
She leaned into him and closed her eyes, saying, "That’s very reassuring."
